Outdoor Table Part Duex!

It seems I am not a great blogger. I planned to give a lot of updates on the progress of this project, but I kept jumping between multiple different things. One of those things is I proposed to my girlfriend! She said yes of course because I am awesome, but that is besides the point. Anyways, after all of the work that went into making the ring, and getting sidetracked with another round of cutting boards, I was finally able to get this project finished! It was a fun project because I wasn't necessarily concerned with all of the little details that tend to bog me down while crafting a piece. Its the attention to details that really make pieces good or great.

For this table, I wanted to make something that was bright and rustic. That is kind of an oxymoron, but I believe it was pulled off in this project. The first step was to make the table top. I went with standard two by construction lumber, but instead of using the same width material, I wanted to create some interest by using 2x6 and 2x4 material. I already had a grey stain that I used on two previous projects (Coffee Table, Outdoor Bench) that was prefect for this project. Once it was stained, I went ahead and applied a few coats of Polyurethane.

Here is the top with the stain applied, but without a poly topcoat.

Once the top was done, it was time to wait for a nice day that wasn't too hot or raining. The metal frame of the table was in good shape, but there was some areas of rust and old paint chipping off. I went all it with a wire wheel attached to my drill to get a lot of the loose paint/debris off. Once that was done, I used the grinder to get most of the rust and paint off. This was pretty nasty work as I was covered in dust and dirt!

Then came the fun part of priming and painting the legs. I put on two good coats of white primer, then I sprayed Rustoleum Sea Breeze aqua color. It turned out even brighter than we were anticipating, but it was exactly what we were looking for! We wanted a color that could brighten up our kind of drab back yard. We like it so much that we are thinking of painting the legs of the coffee table the same color to have matching tables.

Please make sure to check my Instagram account to keep up to date on all of the project I make. The link is at the bottom of the web page.

Outdoor Table Set Reclamation

I've got a new project! Recently my girlfriend and I have been on the lookout for an outdoor table. We really didn't want to buy something new, so free section on Craigslist and our local Facebook groups have been the basis for most of our searching. Just so happened this week, Diane found a free table set on a Facebook post. She grabbed the truck, picked up the set, but waited until I got home after work to show me everything sitting in the bed of the truck.

The table set is of a simple wrought iron construction with a glass top, and chairs with worn out seat cushions. The paint is peeling and the seat cushions look terrible. The first thing I thought to do was to strip and repaint the metal, then replace the glass and cushions with stained 2x6's. The colors that we have in mind right now is a bright ocean blue for the table and a pale yellow for the chairs, with a grey stain on the wood. I'm hoping to start on the project this week!
